Organized Labor & United Way

For more than 80 years, United Way and Organized Labor have partnered to strengthen the communities where we live and work. The AFL-CIO Labor Liaison helps maintain and grow this important relationship.

Together, United Way and the AFL-CIO connect workers, unions, and community organizations to improve the lives of working families and advance economic and social justice. This partnership is built on the belief that strong communities and a strong labor movement are created through the investment of time, talent, and resources by working people.

Communities have a responsibility to support individuals and families whose needs cannot be met through their own resources. By working together, unions and United Way help address critical community needs, fund essential programs and services, and educate community members about how United Way investments make a difference.

The United Way–Labor partnership is dedicated to building a vibrant community that supports workers and their families while promoting dignity and respect both on the job and in the community. Through the AFL-CIO Community Services Program, this partnership will continue to grow and make a lasting impact.
